Oak to Spain
The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old bears witness to the dedicated investment in time and quality that has characterized The Macallan since 1824. The Macallan ships American oak to Spain, where the casks are made and matured with sherry before being sent to the Speyside distillery and stores for 12 years. The whiskeys are then harmonized with those aged in European oak and the magic happens!

The distillery
An obsession with quality has characterized The Macallan since its founding by Alexander Reid on a plateau above the River Spey in north-east Scotland. The distillery is surrounded by a 485 hectare estate with Easter Elchies House at its heart.
