Krug believes that each individual wine in the finished blend in Krug Grande Cuvée and Krug Rosé is in itself like a single ingredient.

Each year, the House of Krug honors this philosophy by celebrating a single ingredient and inviting renowned Krug ambassador chefs to create food pairings to accompany the latest edition of Krug Grande Cuvée and Krug Rosé.

In 2023, Krug Grande Cuvée and Krug Rosé will be accompanied by the great taste universe of the citrus fruit, and more than 100 chefs representing 25 countries have taken up the challenge and created recipes with the citrus fruit in focus.

"Every year since the foundation of the house, a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée has been created, every year the inspiration will be the same, but the creation will be completely unique and different." Olivier Krug

Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition is a blend of 131 wines from 12 different years, the youngest of which is from 2015, while the oldest dates back to 2000. A maturation of around seven years in Krug's cellars gives this edition its remarkable expression and elegance . In total, over 20 years of meticulous craftsmanship were required to enjoy this edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, which represents the 171st re-creation of Champagne's most generous expression.

Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2015, a year characterized by unprecedented heat and drought that prevailed from late May to mid-August, slowing down the development of the grapes. Fortunately, the rain in the second half of August allowed the berries to grow and, combined with sunshine and reasonable temperatures, ensured ripening under optimal conditions. The harvest took place between August 31 and September 21, during the rains, with great disparity from land to land.

To create this edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Cellar Master looked to highlight the year's elegant and diverse aromatic expression with different parcels of reserve wines from 11 other years. The careful attention given to the vines and Krug's unique respect for the individual character of each parcel enabled the breadth of expression of this edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

In total, reserve wines from the house's extensive library made up 42% of the final blend, bringing the breadth and roundness so essential to each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
The final composition of this bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée is 45% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay and 18% Meunier.

More than a cookbook, "The Zest is Yet to Come" is a meeting of creators - Cellar Master Julie Cavil and Krug Ambassade Chefs - that shows us the limitless inspiration we can tap into when life gives you lemons.

FOUNDED IN 1843

KRUG Champagne

Krug is one of the finest houses in Champagne , with a history that goes back to 1843 when the house was founded by Johann-Joseph Krug. They have an easily recognizable style, which is due to the fact that all wine is fermented exclusively in oak barrels, and that the second fermentation on the lees is extra long.
