We are honestly more than usual excited about the breathtaking champagnes from Castelger, where you get great wine experiences for - in the context of champagne - quite a bit of money! This wine has been named La Trilogie, which of course refers to the 3 dominant grapes in Champagne: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. However, the distribution is not 1:1:1, but 50% chardonnay, 40% pinot meunier and 10% pinot noir. The dosage is 7 grams per litre.
Colour: Light golden.
Smell: It is simply the textbook example of champagne, with lovely notes of white flowers, brioche, and Mediterranean lemons.
Tasting notes: Perfect mousse and a lovely balance between the acidity and soft notes of white peaches, citrus peel and minerality.
Serving suggestions: Enjoy it chilled, e.g. with vongole, truffle fritters or sushi.
Champagne Castelger is located in the heart of a wine village just 6 km west of Epernay. From here they have a view of the Marne valley.
Castelger is a family-run Champagne House, where today it is the 5th generation that is responsible for everything regarding the Champagne House's operation, incl. their 9 hectares of vines. The house is located on the northern hillside of the Marne valley.
Their vines benefit from a semi-continental climate and clay-limestone soil. Cultivation methods are practiced in a traditional way.
They have chosen to produce Champagne with the three main grape varieties, Meunier and Chardonnay, which make up a very large part of their yield (46% and 44%) against only 10% of Pinot Noir.
