Barros 20 Years Tawny Port in a nice gift box with 2 good glasses. 20 years old is considered by many to be the "perfect" age of Tawny port. Here you get plenty of deep age complexity to an unmistakable degree, which only appears after many years in cask, but still with a certain freshness and sprightliness. In addition, although it is a luxury drink, the price is still affordable, where the older siblings of 30 and 40+ years are somewhat more expensive. In this way, the relationship between price and towering quality with deep complexity is probably the best in this 20 year old Tawny.
With this one, as with other old Tawnys, it can withstand being left open for a long time. We can't directly recommend storing it for more than 14 days after opening, the scent starts to be noticeable, but experience shows that it still smells and tastes really good after several months of opening. In this way, it is perfect, e.g. for the Christmas month, as an After Dinner drink or the ideal dessert wine when the need is only a small amount.
Colour : Transparent amber gold with a small, garnet red reflex.
Scent : Adventurous scent with everything the port wine heart could desire. A sublime potpourri of dark berries, dried fruits, walnut, chocolate, a little whiff of fruitiness and then the most beautiful notes of dried apricots and orange zest. A fragrance that moves you.
Taste : The taste lives up beautifully to the fantastic scent. Here there is fatness, fullness, sweetness in abundance and it is all kept in balance by a tantalizing acidity that gives freshness and nerve. The aftertaste is very long with the beautiful crunchy note and walnut, as the lingering nuances, long after you have drunk the wine.
Serving suggestions : Enjoy chilled with desserts with chocolate, nuts or as a meditation wine after a meal. Try it, for example, for a Sachertorte.
