Château Galoupet has been established in Provence since the 18th century. It is a respected wine producer recognized as Côtes de Provence Crus Classés since 1955. Since spring 2019, it has been owned by the prestigious Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton Group (LVMH), which has transformed this classic vineyard into a prestigious rosé brand that focuses on quality, biodiversity and sustainability.
Jessica Julmy, former international commercial director at Krug Champagne, has led this transformation with an almost new team, however long-time winemaker Gilles Bascle remains at the helm. The result is impressive with 5 wines reduced to 2 and production from the 70 ha of vines more than halved.
In line with wider sustainability goals, vineyards are now undergoing organic conversion and typical Provence flowers and herbs have been planted between the vines to maintain humidity. Beekeeping hives have been established on the property, and ducks and goats graze on the vineyards.
On the bottle, a small molded moon symbolizes the indication of night harvest, and the ambitions of Moët Hennessy's focus on sustainable wine production are reflected in the bottle's eye-catching ocher design. Château Galoupet is also working towards becoming 100% CO2 neutral with initiatives such as water reservoirs, solar panels and electric vehicles.
This rosé from Provence reaches beyond regional and national boundaries and must be measured against the world's most ambitious barrel-aged rosé wines. It has the potential to do just that.
