Abyss = Champagne from the bottom of the sea

Abyss Rosé Vintage 2018 is the first release of Abyss in Rosé ever! The original Abyss was first created approx. 10 years ago when Leclerc Briant in collaboration Amphoris, a company specialized in underwater projects submerged the Vintage 2012 for 12 months of storage at a depth of 60 meters...

Abyss Rosé 2018 was blended and bottled in June 2019, disgorged in July 2021 and then in September 2021 it was shipped to Brittany where it spent just over 10 months at a depth of 60 meters before being retrieved in July 2022. The grapes that make up this Champagne, was harvested from selected Champagne villages, known for their specific limestone subsoil; carefully selected terroirs that are in perfect resonance with the marine sediment that lies in the Gulf of Stiff, on the eastern tip of the "Ile d'Ouessant" off the coast of France in Brittany.

The weather: 2018 was a very unusual year in more ways than one. After an unusually rainy winter, the spring was very mild. The heat brought with it stormy and sometimes destructive weather as well as varying rainfall throughout the early summer. The summer was very hot, dry and sunny, surpassing even the record high temperatures of 2003. 2018 is therefore a new benchmark for the Champagne region in terms of heat, drought and sunshine levels.

Technical information:
Vineyards: 100% Premier Cru | Chardonnay: Bisseuil | Pinot Noir: Les Riceys
Grapes: 85% Chardonnay & 15% Pinot Noir (vinified as red wine)

Tasting notes
It has a fragrant and developing Pinot nose, which comes with tasty notes of cherry and bitter almond. On the palate, the Burgundian tones are further emphasized and the mineral flavors originate from the months spent at the bottom of the sea.
