Louis Roederer Cristal 2006 Magnum
World-famous, Cristal is produced only from the truly great vintages in which the ripeness of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes can provide the subtle and precise balance that is now the distinction of this cuvée. Between 20-30% of the wines are vinified in oak barrels and the final blend is matured for five years in the cellars and rests for eight months after disgorgement. Louis Roederer has been implementing biodynamics in its vineyards for close to 10 years now and so far has converted 50% of its holdings, while the other 50% is still organic.
A rich colour with light amber highlights characteristic of 2006, a year of very fine ripeness. There is a rich bouquet with citrus fruits such as lemon and orange. A few hints of tatin tart and Danish pastries add a final touch to the already complex range of aromas. The texture is incredibly concentrated, giving the impression of biting into a ripe, fleshy fruit. The palate is enveloped by this depth of juicy, silky fruit which soon makes way for a pure, sharp and graceful freshness.
97/100P Antonio Galloni
“Broad, ample and resonant on the palate, the 2006 Cristal dazzles with its pure richness and volume. Readers need to give the 2006 another 4-5 years in bottle, perhaps longer, as the wine appears to be shutting down a bit. Tasted next to the 2002, today the 2006 is a bit less opulent but just as intense, layered and deep. This is a fabulous showing.” VinousMedia.com May 2014
