Louis Roederer's Brut Rosé is produced in the traditional way, that is, by letting the must have skin contact for the first 4-5 hours of the initial fermentation. This method gives a delicate and fine color. For Brut Rosé 2016, 38% Chardonnay and 62% Pinot Noir grapes were used from some of Roederer's oldest vines in Cumières and Chouilly, which are known for producing extremely concentrated must both in taste, aroma and color. For 2016, 4% of the wine was subjected to a malolactic fermentation, and a total of 21% of the vintage is matured in wooden barrels after the first fermentation. The fermentation in the bottle lasts for 4 years, and after decorking the wine is further stored for 6 months before shipping. The liqueur that is added during the decoction (liqueur de dosage) amounts to 8 g per liters and is composed of wines selected from 8-10 of Roederer's best Grands Crus fields and which are aged in barrel for 4-10 years.

After a cool and wet spring in 2016, which ensured good water reserves in depth, a perfect, warm summer was experienced, which gave good flowering and grape formation. The extremely dry period from the end of August to the end of the harvest (15 September – 1 October) gave the grapes perfect ripening conditions, while allowing the vines to draw water from the underground. The Pinot Noir grapes achieved a rare concentration of fruit and a very velvety style. The Chardonnay grapes produced precise, structured and slightly mineral wines. A nice balance!

In the aroma, the wine is very complex with nuances of ripe, yellow fruits (mirabelles, white peaches), slightly acidic, red fruits (currants, lingonberries), blood oranges and toasted bread. With oxygenation comes nuances of pickled, red apricots and nectarines, but also mineral and slightly salty tones. In the taste, it is freshness and elegance that emerges first, but then some of the fruit notes that you had in the fragrance come back. As always, this Brut Rosé Vintage has a very charming, aromatic, dry and appetizing finish.

Brut Rosé will go well with fatty fish such as salmon and halibut or with lamb and veal. It can also be used for fatter, mature cheeses.
