Champagne Louis Roederer has decided from the summer of 2021 to replace one of the house's most famous champagnes, "Brut Premier", with the new "Collection". The overriding motive is the desire to lift the quality and character one notch higher, so that Louis Roederer further cements its status as a supplier of one of the market's absolute best non-vintage champagnes. The 3rd edition of "Collection" is properly called "Collection 243" and refers to the fact that it is primarily based on vintage 2018, which is the 243rd vintage at Louis Roederer. The following editions of "Collection" will of course also have a number added, which is derived in the same way.

With the introduction of "Collection", Louis Roederer has also decided to provide more information on the bottle about which vintage the wine is primarily based on, and which reserve vintages and the proportion of these are also included. "Collection 243" is, as mentioned, primarily based (59% of the blend, of which 6% is matured in wooden casks) on 2018 - a vintage which was one of the warmest and sunniest for many years. It produced incredibly concentrated Pinot Noir grapes, very intense and slightly salty Chardonnays and very fruity Meunier grapes.

"Reserve Wines" (older vintages of barrel-aged wines) make up 10%, divided between the vintages 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) The share of "Perpetual Reserve Wines" (older vintages aged in tanks) makes up 31% in "Collection 243” – distributed over the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. This complexity ensures the “Collection” a high degree of continuity in style and quality and at the same time adds even more fullness, complexity and character. "Collection" is fermented and stored in the bottle for min. 3 years, and the "dosage" - the sugar liqueur that is added at the end, amounts to approx. 8 g per litres.

"Collection 243" is composed of 42% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 18% Meunier from many different parcels, 1/3 of which are located in each of Champagne's best districts - Vallée de la Marne, Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs . The relatively large proportion of Chardonnay in "Collection 243" gives an immediate and delicate aroma of ripe, freshly picked peaches and apricots, but also creamy, exotic tones. Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier add more structure, dryness and a lovely, appetizing crispness. Discreet nuances of honey, vanilla, almonds and toast appear in the aftertaste. A full-bodied, harmonious and charming champagne, with lots of character. The wine is perfect as an aperitif due to its freshness and finesse, but is also an excellent food accompaniment.
