Description

The story of "Brut Nature" started with Louis Roederer in the unusually warm and sunny 2003, when most vineyards in Champagne showed signs of "stress". At Roederer, however, it was discovered that some of the family's vineyards on very calcareous or clay soils near Epernay, in Cumières, Hautvillers and Vertus, which were originally part of a single estate, proved to be able to cope with the heat and especially the drought without problems.

As fate would have it, Frédéric Rouzaud – the 7th generation at the helm after Louis Roederer – met the French designer and architect Philippe Starck at this time, and the idea of involving him in the creation of the new wine was born. In collaboration with Fréderic Rouzaud and his team, Philippe Starck has thus helped to define the philosophy for the wine. Three things must be prioritized: The natural, with respect for the vineyards and the plants (biodynamic cultivation), the individual, with gentle vinification techniques (long fermentation in wooden barrels, no technical interventions, biodynamic methods) and finally the elegance of the wine. The grape composition and balance in the wine must support the origin and vintage. Brut Nature was only produced in the vintages 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2015.

2015 was an excellent vintage in Champagne, with the right climatic conditions in terms of heat and rain, which provided a perfect balance between concentration and freshness. Brut Nature 2015 is made from 26% Chardonnay, 37% Pinot Noir and 17% Pinot Meunier from Cumières. After the first fermentation, 23% of the wine is aged in wooden barrels and the rest in tank - without malolactic fermentation. The second fermentation in the bottle lasted 5 years. The wine is not added with "liqueur de dosage" during degorching and is therefore on the dry end. After disgorging, the wine is further matured for 6 months before shipping.

The long fermentation in the bottle produces beautiful, persistent, small bubbles. The wine has a deep, glossy, golden color. In the scent you will find nuances of ripe and pickled fruits (citrus fruits, peaches, baked apples), vanilla and nuts. In the taste, the wine has a fantastic harmony between the exotic fruit tones and the strength, as well as lots of freshness and purity at the end. A perfect champagne for gastronomy.

Louis Roederer

Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 and their fields are located in the 3 best regions of Champagne: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs and they cover 80-85% of Louis Roederer's total needs for grapes. 97% of the vineyards are classified as Grand Cru or Premier Cru.
